Clear & Brilliant with a Side of Salmon DNA

Yes, salmon DNA is a real thing in skincare. And yes, I know the name raises questions.

At LuminaSkin, I am very intentional about what I pair with treatments. I do not add something just because it is trending. I want to know what it does, why we are using it, and whether it actually makes sense for your skin. That is why, for certain patients, I like pairing Clear + Brilliant with a professional topical polynucleotide product — better known on social media as “salmon DNA.”

So, what exactly is salmon DNA?

The less dramatic name is polynucleotides, or PDRN. These are purified DNA-derived ingredients traditionally sourced from salmon or trout and used in aesthetics to support skin quality and the skin’s recovery environment. And no, you will not smell like salmon afterward. There are injectable versions, topical professional products, and skincare products, so they are not all the same. At LuminaSkin, when I talk about using salmon DNA with Clear + Brilliant, I am specifically referring to a professional topical product used as part of post-treatment skincare.

Why pair it with Clear + Brilliant?

Think of Clear + Brilliant as the main character. It is a non-ablative fractional laser that creates tiny treatment zones in the skin to encourage renewal. I often recommend it when someone wants to improve the look of tone, texture, dullness, radiance, or early signs of aging without committing to a more intensive recovery. Once the laser portion is finished, I start thinking about how we support the skin afterward. That is where a topical polynucleotide product may come in. The laser does the treatment. The topical supports the post-treatment plan. Simple as that. It is all part of your Skinvestment!

I always tell my patients that great skin is rarely about one treatment or one miracle serum. Is salmon DNA actually from salmon?

Not exactly the glamorous skincare ingredient name we are used to, but here we are. Why use it right after the laser? Because once I am finished treating the skin, I want to support it appropriately during recovery. Clear + Brilliant creates the controlled laser response. The topical polynucleotide product may be one part of the skincare protocol I use afterward. It is a supporting player — not a replacement for the treatment itself.

Who is Clear + Brilliant good for?

How do I know if I need the salmon DNA too?
