Microdermabrasion
Skin Resurfacing – In The SF Bay Area
What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion (MicroExfoliation) is a non-surgical, non-invasive cosmetic procedure for removing the topmost layer of the skin, leaving it supple and vibrant. This treatment effectively diminishes fine lines, enlarged pores, blackheads, age spots, hyperpigmentation (uneven skin tone), sun damage and even minor scars.
How Does It Work?
Microdermabrasion works by gently abrading the top layer of the skin with the use of either micro aluminum oxide crystals or natural diamond chips, revealing a new, smoother layer underneath. At LuminaSkin we use a DiamondTome wand which not only removes the outer layer of dead skin cells, but also vacuums the dead cells away in a sterile, controlled manner.
What Results or Beneficial Outcomes Can I Expect?
With the removal of the dead skin cells, your skin will feel fresher, cleaner, and softer, with a radiant glow. Removing this outer layer promotes the growth of healthy new skin cells. Wrinkles and fine lines become finer and less pronounced. Sun damage, age spots, enlarged pores, and acne scars are reduced.
Am I a Good Candidate For Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion has virtually no risks and no side effects because it is one of the least invasive skin resurfacing procedures. However, patients who are suffering from active herpes lesions, malignant tumors, keratosis, active rosacea, weeping acne or have been on Accutane in the last six months, should not have microdermabrasion. Please contact us to determine if Microdermabrasion is the right treatment for you at www.LuminaSkin.com/form_consultation.html .
What Are The Possible Side Effects and Complications?
Your skin may look slightly flushed immediately after the treatment but should return to normal in 10 – 30 minutes. Patients sometimes experience a sensation like a mild windburn and may have some redness. Patients may apply a topical cortisone cream post-treatment if they experience any of these sensations. Inexperienced practitioners can cause burns.
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
Treatment time varies, from 30 – 45 minutes, depending on the area.
What Happens After The Procedure?
You will want to protect your results with a high-quality moisturizer and a broad spectrum sunscreen with at least an SPF 30.
